how to get lucky (the smart way)
most people think luck is random. you win the genetic lottery, you’re born into wealth, or you stumble into the right opportunity at the right time.
that’s wrong.
luck isn’t magic. it’s a skill. and like any skill, you can get better at it.
the 4 types of luck
there are four kinds of luck:
1. dumb luck: winning the lottery, getting struck by lightning. you don’t control this.
2. action-based luck: moving fast, trying new things. you increase your surface area for opportunities.
3. observation-based luck: spotting patterns others miss. being the guy who sees a wave before it crashes.
4. reputation-based luck: opportunities come to you because you’ve built credibility.
most people sit around waiting for dumb luck. winners focus on the other three.
how to manufacture more luck
say yes more (at first) — new experiences = new doors. you can’t get lucky from your couch.
get in the right rooms — the best luck happens where high-leverage people gather. conferences, events, twitter dms — wherever.
build an interesting reputation — luck flows to people who are known for something. be the “go-to” person for a skill, idea, or insight.
move fast, even when you’re not ready — the luckiest people i know take action before they feel 100% prepared.
the power of being “luck-worthy”
there’s a reason the same people keep “getting lucky.” elon musk, mrbeast, naval, they all have something in common:
they put themselves in situations where good things happen to them.
it’s not just “right place, right time.” it’s right person, right preparation, right mindset.
if you want to get luckier, don’t wait for it. build the conditions where luck finds you.
final thought:
if luck was truly random, casinos wouldn’t exist. but they do. and guess what? the house always wins. so stop gambling on dumb luck and start stacking the odds in your favor.
now, go make something happen. 🚀
