turn boring work into your love story

there was a time when getting out of bed felt like a war. gym sessions felt like punishment. writing code felt like a never-ending puzzle. everything felt heavy because i was doing it for the outcome, not the process.

then, i started romanticizing the mundane.

waking up early? now it’s the golden hour where i sip coffee and listen to lo-fi beats. hitting the gym? i view my sessions as a scene from ‘Rocky’, where every rep is a part of my underdog story. writing? it’s my way of leaving digital footprints that might outlive me.

when you romanticize the process, the work stops feeling like work. it becomes art. it becomes self-expression. and suddenly, you’re showing up every day, not because you have to, but because you’re in love with the journey.

why this works

1. emotions drive action

we’re emotional creatures. logic alone isn’t enough to keep us consistent. when you attach positive emotions to boring tasks, your brain stops resisting them.

for me, doing homework used to be soul-sucking. but now? i treat it like i’m crafting a masterpiece, organizing chaos into clarity. the same task that once drained me now feels oddly satisfying.

2. identity shift

when you romanticize your actions, you stop being “someone who has to work out” and become “an athlete in training.” you’re not “someone learning to code,” you’re “the next mark zuckerberg building the next big thing in your dorm room, just like in ‘The Social Network.’ this identity shift makes the work feel aligned with who you are.

3. dopamine hits from small wins

celebrating micro-moments — like the sound of typing on a mechanical keyboard or the aesthetic of neatly organized notion page — gives your brain little dopamine hits. those small rewards keep you coming back.

how to do it?

1. romanticize your workspace

set up your desk like it’s your creative studio. light a scented candle. play some house music. make your environment something you look forward to being in.

2. build an aesthetic notion page

create a visually pleasing Notion page to track your progress. seeing your small wins accumulate in a beautiful format can make the grind feel more rewarding.

my life might be chaotic, but my notion page? a masterpiece.
i romanticize productivity. this is proof.

3. document the journey

record your small wins. take aesthetic photos of your progress. build in public. tweet or blog about your journey. romanticizing your growth makes you more invested in it.

4. find beauty in the struggle

when i hit failure after failure while building alro, my productized web dev agency, i started treating each mistake as plot development in my founder journey. reframing struggles as character-building moments made the grind more bearable.

final thought

if you can fall in love with the process, you become unstoppable. because while others are chasing results, you’re finding joy in the work itself. and that’s the cheat code to winning in the long run.
